We're constantly evolving and improving to give visitors the best possible experience at the museum.
Sometimes we may need to temporarily close areas of the museum - for maintenance, improvements or safety reasons. We thank you for your understanding and hope you enjoy the many adventures the museum offers.
Please note, that the family room inside the museum is currently under repair. On the 30th of August, while action stations is closed there will unfortunately be no change tables available and we encourage families to take this into consideration before their visit.
Boardwalk Redevelopment:
The museum is undertaking a significant project to develop a wonderful, new and vibrant harbour frontage.
From April 26 hoardings will be erected around key areas of the boardwalk along the harbourside of the museum.
While we make these improvements, please take extra care as you move around the site, keep an eye on our website for updates, and you can always ask one of our friendly team members for assistance.
Please note – on Friday 30th August due to the ongoing boardwalk redevelopment, both the Heritage Pontoon (SY Ena and Duyfken) and Action Stations (HMAS Vampire and HMAS Onslow, as well as the exhibition and bathrooms) will be unavailable. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.
Vessel Availability:
Replica tall ship Duyfken will be closed from Monday the 26th of August and will be away from the museum for maintenance.
As mentioned above, HMAS Vampire, HMAS Onslow, HMAS Advance, SY Ena and tall ship Duyfken will be closed on Friday 30th August due to the ongoing boardwalk redevelopment
Some of our vessels may be temporarily swapping wharves in early August to make space for a visiting vessel, For more information about locations and opening times, talk to our staff on the day of your visit.
If extreme wet weather hits, we close all vessels for visitor safety. If it's looking like a rainy day, check with our friendly staff or call ahead on (02) 9298 3777. There's still lots of amazing things to enjoy inside the museum though, so don't let rain stop you from visiting!
For visitor safety, when the temperature reaches 36° Celsius we close all vessels. If it looks like it's going to be a hot day, come early and see the vessels first. Check with our friendly staff if you're unsure. Never fear though - our museum galleries are air conditioned, so escape the heat and enjoy an exhibition!
